Peugeot 407 cooling fan problems

In general, it was a week and a half ago. I remember there was a downpour but hot. I was driving. I was relaxing under the air conditioner when suddenly I was hot in my face. A strange and unpleasant sound appeared in front of the car. I went out… The fan broke down. I started surfing the internet. What a miracle! A board available! I bought it and installed. Everything is working!

Peugeot 406 cooling fan problems

A brief result of work on the repair of a regular fan type ref: 1253.E4 (Peugeot & Сitroen (PSA) from 2002 to 2007).

Many times I was persuaded to install an alternative – a fake instead of its original one – I waited and found a great batch.

There are many advisers and “hungry” traders. I was tired of hearing about the shortage and popularity of this node, as a result of which the price varied from 180 to 350$.

During the search, I made a simple and reliable scheme.

And so the search was successful.

I bought a new board and work began.

Features that are present both in the given and in the original fan control schemes PSA:

Highly reliable microcontroller for use in the automotive industry and designed for temperatures from -40 to + 125°C.

Protection circuits against overcurrent.

The protection circuit against overheating.

The protection circuit against over-voltage and complete discharge of the battery at a lower voltage.

  1. The first sign of death of the fan brain is a significant need for power and voltage to spin the engine. It reached 16V and 25A. As a result, significant heating of the board.
  2. I bought the board without brushes. I soldered mine as donors for the new board. The new ones cost money, but mine were still normal.
  3. I cleaned and painted the fan casing for protection against aggressive environment. It took a lot of effort to solder the brushes to the new board. The power of the soldering iron should be at least 80W – the aluminum substrate is an excellent heat sink, which prevents heating.

Top right is old and rotten. New board is at the bottom. Here’s what happened. New fan with your own hands.

Here is a short post and my luck. Thanks to those who appreciated.

P.S. Smooth and safe roads to everybody!

ECU cooling fan Citroen

Four years ago, there was a problem with the fan, it refused to work. I had to run it manually. Having smoked a few pages from internet, I realized that the brushes were stuck. On a warm summer weekend day I gathered my thoughts and disassembled the fan. The problem was exactly the same as with most – the brushes stuck. I cleaned, collected and forgot about the problem.

Just a month ago, I was driving along, all in my thoughts, suddenly the car threw a ‘stop sign’ on the dashboard… Fortunately, the temperature overboard was plus 7. I turned on the air conditioner, opened the hood – the fan was silent. I scrolled with hand — it started, so the old sore returned. A couple of weeks I drove with air conditioning on and “manual start of fan”, also an unpleasant squeak was added (the bearing dried up). It was impossible to go on like this. The price tag for a new fan was just inhumane, so I decided to pick again the old one.

The work took an hour and a half with smoke breaks. Disassembled, looked-brushes stuck, wear percent 60%, but in theory, another three years will run. The problem came out in another — oxidation of the board under the compound. It was not visible from the outside, but the fan didn’t develop full power. They threw a new board (with a new brush assembly) and the fan spun in full force. The bearing was washed, cleaned and oiled. The sleeve was also alive – just needed cleaning and oiling. In short, I am satisfied!

One year warranty.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take any photos of the new board, but they are on the site.

Repair cooling fan citroen

Hello

Not for long I enjoyed the long-awaited coolness in the interior of my car Citroen C5 X7 after replacing the radiator and filling the system with freon.  Here just approached the “long” may weekend, I like most people went out of town. After leaving about 100 km. I understood that the air conditioning stopped cooling. I stopped in the nearest village, looked under the front bumper, and the fan didn’t spin when the air conditioner was on. I thought probably somewhere there was a leak and all the freon was out of the system. Well, I thought, upon arrival back, the first thing I’ll do is go to look for a leak and fix it. On the way back, there were no signs of trouble, when overtaking a passing car, the automatic transmission took off from 6th to 4th gear, and remained on it. I put the transmission in manual mode and tried to raise the gear, but everything was unsuccessful. I stopped on the side of the road and turned off the engine and immediately started it, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th, well, I think what a glitch, but no, after 30 seconds the error pops up that I “boiled”. I stopped, opened the hood, everything seemed to be fine, the antifreeze did not pop up anywhere. I thought why my air conditioning stopped cooling. After standing for about 15-20 minutes I moved forward, about 250 km remained to town, along the highway, the water temperature did not rise much higher than usual, the only thing was that during acceleration after the camera photo fixations the cubes began to approach the red zone. I periodically turned on the stove to the maximum despite the fact that the street was + 25C. The next day, on the Internet I found a person who does computer diagnostics. When connected, it gave an error of the fan board. Honestly, before that, I was morally set up to replace this board, but how it all was not at the right time. After replacing and installing everything worked both the fan and the air conditioner.

The engine was said to be in good condition

1 year warranty

Great weekend to everyone

Citroen radiator fan not working

Good day to everybody.

So if someone has a lot of free time and is very good with his hands, try to take it yourself and clean the brushes, maybe it will work after that. But as the guys said, it helps for a couple of weeks, in the end, they come to change the scheme anyway. Here is the process of parsing.

This is what our fan looks like.

The fan board itself

The old Board is falling to pieces, I’m not the first guy with Citroen C5 — poorly made at the factory, everyone has the board rotted — the guys have a whole basket of old boards from Citroen C5.

A new board is installed

Checked right away. I started the car, the temperature of the air conditioner is at minimum, the speed is at maximum – Fan is spinning!

The warranty was given 1 year.

Time spent – an hour and a half.

Not very cheap, but better than taking a new cooler for $ 500 or second-hand for $ 300.

Satisfied I went to the car wash.

I hope the article will be useful to someone.
